You work. So does your spouse. Consequently, there are are times when your children have to let themselves in and are home alone. What are the best ways to help them be safe and sound? Below are some hints and tips that , if followed, will help insure your piece of mind when you can't be there with your kids.


1. Monitor the safety of your children using your WebCenturion Home Monitoring System at least twice hourly

6. Make sure you put poisons and hazardous materials out of small hands' reach

2. Tell them to lock the front door after arrival. Call responsible adult when you arrive home

7. Periodically rehearse emergency procedures

3. Develop a "password" for answering the door

8. Don't allow your children's friends to visit if you are not home

4. Tell your children to never tell any caller or visitor that your parents are not home&emdash;always say that they're busy and take a message

9. Teach your children safety basics like how to safely handle hot food, stay away from dangerous substances, and how to dial 911

5. Keep all medications securely locked away, including over-the-counter and prescription medications, vitamins,and herbal remedies.

10. Make sure your child has the following phone numbers: yours (including cellphone numbers), a trusted neighbor, a nearby relative, and 911. Store them in your telephone's speed dial
